About Us

Venture North Funding & Development is a nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) dedicated to helping small businesses and entrepreneurs start, grow, and thrive across northwest Michigan. We provide affordable small business loans, flexible business financing, and no-cost business consulting to entrepreneurs at every stage of business—from those launching a new venture to established businesses ready to expand. Our team works closely with each client to understand their goals and connect them with the financing, tools, and resources they need to succeed.

More than a lender, Venture North is a long-term partner in business success. We offer personalized guidance, educational workshops, online learning opportunities, and connections to trusted partners that help entrepreneurs build stronger businesses and create lasting economic impact. By expanding access to capital and expert support, we strengthen local businesses, create jobs, and foster vibrant communities throughout northern Michigan.

We have provided low-cost loans to over 200 northern Michigan businesses totaling over $14 million, leveraging more than $35 million from commercial lending partners and have assisted in creating or retaining over 1,500 local jobs.
